Schools out for Summer

The end of school is always bittersweet. Especially now that I work for the school board. Working for the school comes with a lot of perks. First I have met some really great ladies who teach and work at the school. People who are all different and yet I can find common interests with most of them. The hardest part though is getting to know ladies and spending time with them and seeing the difference they make in your child's live's then watching them go as quickly as they came.

One the final day of school MaKenna's teacher had decided to buy the class McDonald's. I know a lot of teachers do special things for their students, but her teacher has went above and beyond. Each child was treated to a Happy Meal on their birthday's and it was so awesome to see their face when she would arrive with their meal. It's little things like this that I will miss about her next year. Anyway, back to that final day. I had went to her class and the last day is a very busy day, teachers are moving into their classrooms. Some are preparing to have their classrooms cleaned over the summer. Textbooks are being checked in and everyone has one goal in mind, to get those kids out of there and get their stuff done so they can enjoy their summer! I normally spent my mornings in her class so I asked her teacher if she needed me for anything and she said no so I headed off to check in elsewhere. AS I walked out the door, I heard her ask the kids if they were ready and they all scrambled for chairs. Next I heard her say "Welcome to flight 0289742674527 going to HAWAII!" All the kids cheered and I can't deny that I had a tear in my eye. I am not sure if MaKenna will remember all the silly things her teacher did in her class but I hope she does. I hope that the spark she has for learning will never die.

MaKenna struggled some in school. She had never been to preschool. I didn't think it was that important, but after seeing other children reading in her class the day they started. I worried for her, but her teacher took her under her wing and tutored her and she soared to success. I am so proud of her, as she loves to read and to play school. Who knows, maybe one day she will be a teacher herself.

I am so thankful for the teachers that go above and beyond their call of duty. Truth be known they make it harder for us parents to let go! Especially, when they have done such a great job with our children. We have been so blessed this year and I can only pray 2011/2012 school year will be the same way.
