I am Going there. Beware.

Religion.

It is a taboo subject in many peoples lives. You are either for it or against it. As for me it seems the older I get the harder it is to believe in anyone, let alone anything. For along time I have went to church and believed in GOD. I believe in the 10 Commandments. With that being said I know I believe in something, but last week a post on my Facebook page really made me stop and think.

Do I really want the label of Christianity? Here is why.....

A lady who's name will not be mentioned on my blog was asking if Christians really want their children to be cared for by a gay or lesbian health care provider. Asking if your daughter broke her leg severely and had to be hospitalized would you want a lesbian taking care of her in the hospital. I was shocked by her question. Since when are people judged on their job for being gay or a lesbian. Seriously? These people are not pedophiles, their sexual preference is just different from ours. This person seemed worried about the child being influenced by the lesbian nurse that in this story would be taking care of someones child. No where in her ramblings did she mention this persons credentials. Although by her remarks I am sure they would not have mattered. It makes me sick to even think of these types of prejudice. My heart breaks for good people trying to live their lives, who have went to college and paid their dues. Not to mention how would you know if someone is gay? Are Christians suppose to ask every time they go to the doctors office?

Let's take this one step further, let's say you were in a horrible car accident with your child..... your child needed mouth to mouth..... you were unconscious.... you have 2 choices your child dies or gets mouth to mouth from a gay/lesbian? You wake up to find your child's life was saved because a gay/lesbian did CPR. Would you honestly look them in the face and say what the heck were you thinking? Probably not, you would be thankful your child was alive. So before Christians go spewing hate they should probably think of all aspects of what they are asking people to do. People are people. STOP THE PREJUDICE!

The Bible teaches love and acceptance. It teaches us to hate the sin but love the sinner. I believe too many Christians are heading in the wrong direction. They spew so much hate and I see why more and more people won't even step foot in a church. Sometimes it seems like Christians are so worried about everyone else, that they are not realizing when they are pointing the finger they have three more pointing back at them.

I have been out of church for many months now. My heart burdened by the fact that I had no place where I was. Only one person reached out to me since our family stopped going. It seems petty but when I think of church I think of a family. That is why ever year in most churches they will celebrate homecoming. A kind of church family reunion of sorts. Unfortunately I no longer have that church family that I thought I had. We have been searching and I do want to be apart of a church that Loves people, no matter what kind of people they are. I want to serve the Lord, but I don't want to be a part of something that is constantly pointing fingers. There are ways to serve God without pointing fingers at all the sinners that are in plain site. Maybe if we weren't so quick to put up the blinders and took a look at ourselves we would all make the world a better place.

I am sorry if this offends anyone. This story has been on my mind and my heart since last week and I just felt I needed to get it off my chest. Besides these are just my humble opinions.

Would you have a problem seeing a doctor who was having an affair? Engaged in a turf war with their neighbor? Refused to see their parents in a nursing home? Unable to forgive their siblings over what happened at Christmas 7 years ago?
When sinful behavior hits too close to home, we tend to see it as less sinful, choosing to gage other sins as unforgivable, the less likely we are to engage in it.
Being judgemental is a human trait, not limited to Christians~ followers of Christ are just held to a higher standard because they are supposed to be better. Many would claim that to be unfair, but it's true. We should be better. We should be more loving, more grace filled. It is true that we are all imperfect, but the goal is to be an earthly example of Jesus Christ.
But as discouraging as it can be, the Bible warns of not being a part of a church family. Not because God takes attendance, but because He created us to be a family and we can accomplish much more together. So often we enter church wanting to know what can this organization do for me, rarely considering is this a place where God can use the gifts he's given me. Our feelings get hurt because we weren't visited, encouraged or included~ yet we fail to consider how God might have been calling us to be the encourager, the visitor the one who took the first step.
You can't swing a cat without hitting a church in most cities and your's in no different. Find where you can make a difference and do it. One of the things Jesus gave His life for was the church, and even though at times it might seem that it was a waste- I refuse to believe that.
BTW this was what we discussed in youth tonight....How do we love those around us as Jesus did despite their behavior.
